iPhone 3.0: Alternative Background Process Solution

April 14th, 2009 by Lars Ottesen Henriksen

I finally ended up buying an iPhone (but I still also use my HTC Touch Diamond) and so far I am very happy with my purchase. But as with any Apple product you have to accept that their products are limited – what they do, they do fantastically well! But there are always things that you end up missing…

How to watch Hulu outside the U.S.

January 17th, 2009 by Lars Ottesen Henriksen

We always get the TV-shows later than in the U.S… But why wait when Hulu.com exists? Well, they blocked the access from outside the U.S… But the solution is near and free: Hotspot Shield – a free simple proxy solution that goes to the U.S. Found via this Lifehacker post. We’ve been using it for a while and it works great, both on Mac and Windows, even for streaming video.

Bonus: YouTube’s “This video is not available in your country” can be circumvented when needed.

Bonus #2: Additional Office clips are available.

Update: I don’t know how legal this is, so use at your own risk… :-)

Two predictions from my 2009 predictions post were just posted on Technologizer – my suggestion about a TV from Apple and my pessimistic prediction regarding Chrome’s market share… Nice!

Update: The prediction about the Apple TV was revisited on Technologizer.. Luckily the prediction didn’t come through, as I have bought another TV!

My tech predictions for 2009

January 2nd, 2009 by Lars Ottesen Henriksen

As the new year is approaching, I thought I would join in the trend of predictions for the upcoming year. Some are a bit of a long shot, some are pretty straight-forward – which is which is up to you (or very clear at the end of 2009). Feel free to comment on my/add your own predictions in the comments!

Pictures from Tanzania

December 6th, 2008 by Lars Ottesen Henriksen

In the summer of this year, I went to Tanzania with my girlfriend, sister, mother, her husband and his two sons. It was absolutely the most experience packed vacation I have ever been on. I won’t write up a description of it now – just show you some pictures…

JavaFX now at 1.0!

December 5th, 2008 by Lars Ottesen Henriksen

Back in my Sun Campus Ambassador pages, we had a JavaFX Alpha session about this “new language” that would come out in a couple of years… Well, those years are now gone and JavaFX is now at 1.0! So definitely have a look at the JavaFX website and when you want to try it (because you will), use NetBeans which is the official IDE for JavaFX – they’ve even made a special JavaFX bundle. I was quite amazed at how easy it was to make great looking flash-ish/Web 2.0 applications with very little knowledge about the language so I’m excited to try the first real release – I’ll definitely be downloading it this weekend…

Google Chrome to support extensions!

December 2nd, 2008 by Lars Ottesen Henriksen

Well… Looks like I’ll become a Chrome user at some point after all!

And guess what? Google’s dependence on advertising notwithstanding, one of the extension examples the company points to is the ability to block advertisements.
